Break (Queenstown, Milford Sound)

Day 5
Marian and Jen were off skiing, so Josh and I spent the day sleeping in, exploring Queenstown, and taking a lot of naps. It was nice to have a "down" day in our constant travel. We looked at all the shops, picked our dream homes, bought him a water bottle (our big purchase of the day), ate Subway, and talked about life. I have officially decided that I want my gravestone to say "Alyssa Miller Big Butt, Bigger Heart". Make it happen, people! I also worked on my paper that was due the day after break (rude).
We have come to trust Lonely Planet with our lives, so when Marian and Jen returned we went to a restaurant it recommended, Cow. It was in an old barn with a roaring fire and candlelight. Jen and I shared a delicious pasta and had a romantic Lady and the Tramp moment (or two :) ).

We took another nap and then hit the town! We went to the World Bar and we had the most delicious drinks called Dr. Pepper, which is Disaronno, light beer, and coke and it tastes like a wonderful alcoholic version of the soda. So delicious! We also made some Australian friends (meaning they just came over and ordered us drinks, so we didn't mind) who brought over teapots. They are teapots filled with shots, so I think they just do it to make taking shots look classy. We danced for a little bit and a photographer wanted our picture. He was this juicehead, German who had a really thick accent. He first took Marian and I's picture and then pulled the other two it. He positioned the girls around Josh and said "Luff 'im, vorship 'im, kiss 'im, he is your god" and this is how we responded:
(mostly just getting closer to him)

Day 6
Throughout the trip, we always had the best of intentions of getting out of our hostel and on the road in good time, but it never happened. This day was no exception. Josh and I went to the airport to pick up the relocation car (which is a service where we get to have the car for free as long as we get it to a certain location by a certain day. Great for poor college kids!). We had to wait until 9 because that is when the airport opened and we did not get on the road until 9:50. We had a 12:25 cruise of Milford Sound and we knew it was going to be a really tight squeeze on time / we were probably not going to make it. We could reschedule the cruise, but Jen was bungying the next day, so Josh, in all of his driving magic, drove as fast as he could to get us there on time. We arrived 10 minutes late and our cruise was gone! We were all really frustrated, but the woman at the reception desk quickly transferred us over to another cruise with a different company that left 10 minutes later. What a blessing! Thank goodness for the carefree attitude of the Kiwis! The cruise was AMAZING! It was the most awe-inspiring part of the trip for sure and I wish the photo portrayed that. I would recommend HIGHLY to everyone that you see it before you die. I am a changed woman!
We made it!

More dolphin friends

After the cruise, we got to leisurely drive back to Te Anau, where we were staying and explore the Chasm and Lake Marian. When we got to our hostel, Kelly and her dad were there. See, it really is a small world! We made some delicious dinner and spent the rest of the night relaxing and booking the rest of our break.
